Fortune 500 Companies Download Facebook Torrent; At Least They’re Seeding

It turns that the creepy guy who sat behind you in Econ isn’t the only one interested in your facebook. Since being released as a torrent yesterday, the file containing around 100 million facebook profiles has caught the eye of some big players in the business world.

Some creative minds  have used Peer Block to track the IPs of those downloading or uploading the torrent. Some of the IPs that show up? Boeing, Apple, Pepsi, and The Hague. As in, the World Court Hague. That’s a pretty impressive list of leechers.

Now, all of the profiles in the torrent are freely viewable by whoever comes across them on the net, so no illegal activity is going on here. And Gizmodo makes a note to point out that this might just be a random employee getting the curiosity bug. It isn’t necessarily the company itself trolling the tubes for facebook info. Nevertheless, it gives us an interesting snapshot of who exactly wants to get their hands on our (publicly available) information.
